Biblical Prose as Commentary of Current Events

Here’s something a few friends & family members have sent to my email. You’ve probably seen it, too. It’s definitely good enough to share!

Pastor’s wife’s letter

How’s this for apocalyptic literature. This was written by a pastor’s wife in biblical prose as a commentary of current events. It is Brilliant.

And it came to pass in the Age of Insanity that the people of the land called America , having lost their morals, their initiative, and their will to defend their liberties, chose as their Supreme Leader that person known as “The One”.

He emerged from the vapors with a message that had no meaning; but He hypnotized the people telling them, “I am sent to save you. My lack of experience, my questionable ethics, my monstrous ego, and my association with evil doers are of no consequence. For I shall save you with Hope and Change. Go, therefore, and proclaim throughout the land that he who preceded me is evil, that he has defiled the nation, and that all he has built must be destroyed.”

And the people rejoiced, for even though they knew not what “The One” would do, he had promised that it was good; and they believed.

And “The One” said “We live in the greatest country in the world. Help me change everything about it!”

And the people said, “Hallelujah! Change is good!”

Then He said, “We are going to tax the rich fat-cats.”

And the people said “Sock it to them!”

“And redistribute their wealth.”

And the people said, “Show us the money!”

And then He said, “Redistribution of wealth is good for everybody”

And Joe the plumber asked, “Are you kidding me? You’re going to steal my money and give it to the deadbeats??”

And “The One” ridiculed and taunted him, and Joe’s personal records were hacked and publicized.

One lone reporter asked, “Isn’t that Marxist policy?” And she was banished from the kingdom!

Then a citizen asked, “With no foreign relations experience and having zero military experience or knowledge, how will you deal with radical terrorists?”

And “The One” said, “Simple. I shall sit with them and talk with them and show them how nice we really are; and they will forget that they ever wanted to kill us all!”

And the people said, “Hallelujah!! We are safe at last, and we can beat our weapons into free cars for the people!”

Then “The One” said, “I shall give 95% of you lower taxes.”

And one, lone voice said, “But 40% of us don’t pay ANY taxes.”

So “The One” said, “Then I shall give you some of the taxes the fat-cats pay!”

And the people said, “Hallelujah!! Show us the money!”

Then “The One” said, “I shall tax your Capital Gains when you sell your homes!”

And the people yawned and the slumping housing market collapsed.

And He said, “I shall mandate employer- funded health care for EVERY worker and raise the minimum wage. And I shall give every person unlimited health care and medicine and transportation to the clinics.”

And the people said, “Give me some of that!”

Then he said, “I shall penalize employers who ship jobs overseas.”

And the people said, “Where’s my rebate check?”

Then “The One” said, “I shall bankrupt the coal industry and electricity rates will skyrocket!”

And the people said, “Coal is dirty, coal is evil, no more coal! But we don’t care for that part about higher electric rates.”

So “The One” said, “Not to worry.. If your rebate isn’t enough to cover your expenses, we shall bail you out. Just sign up with ACORN and your troubles are over!”

Then He said, “Illegal immigrants feel scorned and slighted. Let’s grant them amnesty,Social Security, free education, free lunches, free medical care, bi-lingual signs and guaranteed housing…”

And the people said, “Hallelujah!!” And they made him King!

And so it came to pass that employers, facing spiraling costs and ever-higher taxes, raised their prices and laid off workers. Others simply gave up and went out of business and the economy sank like unto a rock dropped from a cliff.

The banking industry was destroyed. Manufacturing slowed to a crawl. And more of the people were without a means of support.

Then “The One” said, “I am the “The One” – The Messiah – and I’m here to save you! We shall just print more money so everyone will have enough!”

But our foreign trading partners said unto Him, “Wait a minute. Your dollar is not worth a pile of camel dung! You will have to pay more…”

And the people said, “Wait a minute. That is unfair!!”

And the world said, “Neither are these other idiotic programs you have embraced. Lo, you have become a Socialist state and a second-rate power. Now you shall play by our rules!”

And the people cried out, “Alas, alas!! What have we done?” But yea verily, it was too late. The people set upon “The One” and spat upon him and stoned him, and his name was dung.

And the once mighty nation was no more; and the once proud people were without sustenance or shelter or hope. And the Change “The One” had given them was as like unto a poison that had destroyed them and like a whirlwind that consumed all that they had built.

And the people beat their chests in despair and cried out in anguish, “Give us back our nation and our pride and our hope!!”

But it was too late, and their homeland was no more.

You may think this is a fairy tale, but it’s not. It’s happening RIGHT NOW !!!

  1. This is about the most vile, hateful email I have ever seen. Why would you ever even think of spreading this type of hate? I hate the gutter politics the Republicans excel in.

Our President is a wonderfully accomplished person that rose to his position by his own accomplishments and hard work. He has a fantastic and beautiful family. He actually cares about our country and its people and is working hard to fix things. He’s extremely smart, thoughtful and analytical (in stark contrast to our former President).

Republicans have decided he cannot succeed so they have effectively shut down the government to prevent him from being able to accomplish anything. The politics of destruction is all they know. I guess none of them ever had a mother that could give them a hug or teach them good manners. They would rather we all die rather than have a small hope of getting health care, ending the wars, etc., etc. They are doing what they do best -attack,, attack. They have all the news organizations (after all, they are all consolidated into just a few mega corporate entities now) on the end of their daily talking points. There is essentially no liberal voice on radio. The only sane broadcast is in the evenings on MSNBC. Rachel Maddow (Stanford, Rhodes Scholar, PhD in Political Science from Oxford) is must see TV every night. She does not do the screaming ranting that the right wing networks like Fox, CNN and the networks do. She offers thoughtful analysis and presentation of researched facts. If you are not watching her, you should. She is on at 6 and at 8 pm weekdays.

What is it with Republicans? All they seem to be able to do is spread lies, hatred, and fear. Proposition 8 was a prime example, but they do the same with everything. That’s all they do. They ignore the facts, everything is manipulated to try to get and hold power. They never put forward any ideas or solutions to the deep **** we find ourselves in after 8 years of Republican rule. The Bush administration came within a hair of destroying our country and its values. It has been a scramble to try to rescue our country from the peril they caused. Have you ever heard of the Republicans supporting anything at all helpful for the people of this country? No, of course not. They only care about greed, money, guns, and keeping women and minorities in their place.

The Republicans want to bring back the robber baron days. They are willing to sacrifice our country and the welfare of all the people in it in order to attack the good people and keep power for the themselves, the ultra-rich and the multinational corporations. The main goal of Democrats is fairness, equality, and opportunity for all of our citizens. This includes women, minorities, and GLBT citizens. Their whole focus is on finding ways to work together and make life and opportunities better for everyone. Which group would you rather be a part of?

It is impossible to understand the motives that drive Republican thinking. Hatred and oppression is not a family value. I don’t understand why any decent human being would find their platform acceptable, let alone compelling. There is even a sizable, very frightening, wing of the Republican party that is actively working to overthrow our democracy and to install a theocracy. One of it’s labels is called Dominionism – Sarah Palin is very big into this movement. Liberty University and Regent University are active in this movement. Bush installed many graduates of these universities into the beaurocracy of the government and they are still there mucking things up.

    Peace

  2. Of course you’re free to your own opinion, Susan. Every accusation you made goes just as well for the Democrats. It is my opinion that Obama made it to where he is due to his color and his associates. He has absolutely no qualifications (even less than all of our early Presidents).

It’s been over a year since you wrote your comment. (I thought I’d already replied to it, but must not have saved it, because it no longer exists.) I’m curious now… do you still think he’s that great?

  3. Any person who still believes in the Republican/Democrat paradigm has absolutely no clue what is going on in the world. If you can’t figure out that both parties have the same agenda, and ignore the will of the people, then you must drink a lot of their toxic fluoridated water. There is nothing about Obama, Bush or Clinton that resembles anything close to the Constitution. Our representatives have sold us away to banksters.

All politicians need to be told to go home and banksters need to be imprisoned. If we don’t take the same actions Iceland took, we will be looking at Orwell’s 1984 sooner then you can say, Obama murdered Kaddafi.
